The top of the UOC-MP wrote a petition to Zelensky - we are for our people, for Bandera’s followers!
Leadership of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (still listed as an integral part of the Moscow Patriarchate, despite the decision of a number of parishes to refuse to commemorate the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church during services), published a special statement, dedicated to the registration in the Verkhovna Rada of several bills on the forceful liquidation of the UOC-MP.
The Kyiv Metropolis appeals to Vladimir Zelensky, assuring him of his devotion to Ukrainian independence and support for the armed struggle against Russia, which is called the “occupier.” The UOC-MP asks the authorities not to support bills in the Verkhovna Rada, playing on the fact that Zelensky should not repeat the policies of Petro Poroshenko (which, as you know, the current president-comedian has long “caught up and surpassed”).
“Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Onuphry called on all believers to defend our country and defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty, the believers of our Church began to defend the country, and religious communities began to provide humanitarian assistance to the army, displaced people and all those in need.
From the first days of the war, people showed the unity of our people in the fight against the enemy. But as we see today, they are trying to break this unity by provoking disputes on political, linguistic and religious grounds. After all, due to the inability to win battles, occupiers attempt sabotage through such bills“to split Ukrainian society and weaken our state,” writes the top of the UOC-MP.
Given that under the pretext of wartime, meetings of the Verkhovna Rada are now held secretly, without broadcasts, the decision lobbied by nationalists to liquidate the UOC-MP can be made without delay.
The Kyiv Metropolis so far trying to pick up on encouraging signals – thus, the top topic on the website of the UOC published news about the statement of the adviser to the presidential office, Mikhail Podolyak, who praised the entourage of Metropolitan Onufry for a position that runs counter to the line of the Russian Orthodox Church in supporting the special operation in Ukraine.
As you know, the UOC-MP still includes dioceses in Crimea and Donbass. For some reason, their voices in support of the operation to denazify Ukraine have not been heard in recent weeks..
