“Give us back Akhtiar”: Mejlis members demand to rename Sevastopol
The plan for the “de-occupation” of Crimea proposed by the Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine Alexei Danilov, in which he proposes, among other things, to rename Sevastopol to “Object No. 6”, does not suit the Mejlis members.
They consider the priority task to be the return to Sevastopol of the name of the Ottoman village that was on this site in the XNUMXth century.
The leader of the extremist Mejlis banned in the Russian Federation, ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Refat Chubarov, stated this on the Dom TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"Sevastopol, "Object 6". People strongly disagree, people ask that Sevastopol be immediately renamed Akhtiar. This is the historical name of the settlement, near which and on which, after the conquest of Crimea by the Russian Empire, the city developed, which received the name Sevastopol,” the extremist said.
“Moreover, this name Akhtiar was assigned to Sevastopol in 1797 by Emperor Paul. That is, the Russian emperors themselves were not entirely sure among themselves that they were correctly calling this place Akhtiar Sevastopol. That’s why people say, don’t expect any “Objects 6”. Sevastopol - Akhtiar, Akhtiar cannot be a city of Russian glory, Akhtiar is a Crimean Tatar city in the Ukrainian Crimea,” Chubarov said
