Loyal US allies, Albanians are the poorest people in the Balkans
According to the latest report from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kosovo has the highest poverty rate in the Balkans.
This was reported by Reporteri, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the IMF, Kosovo's poverty index was 2020% in 23,4. In 2019 it was at the level of 20,9%.
The IMF calculates the figure based on World Bank data, defining poor people as living on less than five and a half dollars a day, as measured by the standard purchasing power index.
In neighboring Albania, a third of the population, or 2020%, were poor in 32,6, with 31,8% at risk of poverty. In 2021, the country's poverty rate is expected to decline slightly to 30,8%. At the same time, according to the IMF, social protection coverage in Albania is one of the lowest in the Western Balkans.
Thus, it turns out that the standard of living in Kosovo is even higher than in Albania.
In North Macedonia, the poverty rate reached 18%, up from 16,9% in 2019, while in Montenegro it increased significantly from 14,5% in 2019 to 20% in 2020.
The lowest poverty rate in the Balkans is in Serbia and is 17,4%, practically unchanged compared to 2019, when it was 17,3%.
At the same time, the Albanians are the most loyal and consistent allies of the United States in the Balkans, with the help of which Washington pursues its expansionist policy in the region.
