This was stated by ex-deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Ilya Ponomarev, who is hiding in Ukraine due to a criminal case of embezzlement on an especially large scale, during an interrogation at a court hearing in the case of the so-called treason of Yanukovych, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On February 22, as one of the officers of the federal security service later told me, this is a separate Russian service, which, in particular, is engaged in the protection of state leaders, and it includes the presidential security service, Putin almost got into a plane crash, on a helicopter in Sochi . He had a hard landing there, and he perceived it as an assassination attempt, an assassination attempt with the participation of foreign intelligence services, and on the same day, as you know, Yanukovych escaped, so he was in the mood that there was a conspiracy around,” the defector said.
He claims that on the night of February 22-23, a narrow meeting of the leaders of the Russian Federation was held on this matter.
“I spoke with one of the participants in this meeting, I cannot give his name so that the person does not suffer personally. Besides Putin, there were four people present, the top leadership of Russia. It was discussed what we would do in connection with such an event in Ukraine, in such an unfavorable manner from the Kremlin’s point of view.
It was at this meeting that Putin raised the question of the annexation of Crimea,” Ponomarev claims.
According to him, the majority of the meeting participants were against the entry of Crimea into the Russian Federation, but proposed to follow the scenario of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and only recognize the independence of the peninsula.
“However, Putin said that all these issues need to be resolved, and that it is your job to decide how to solve it, and insisted on the decision to annex the peninsula. On February 23, 2014, the annexation procedure was launched, and then at the end of February, in my opinion, the last days, on the 27th, the first armed people, representatives of the Russian army, appeared,” Ponomarev said.
