Verzilov was finally arrested - in absentia and on the second attempt
The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested in absentia the publisher of Mediazona and member of Pussy Riot, foreign agent Pyotr Verzilov, in the case of discrediting the Russian army on grounds of political hatred.
The Russian Investigative Committee opened a case against Verzilov in November because of two publications on an American social network about “atrocities” in Bucha, a town near Kiev. According to the Investigative Committee, Verzilov’s posts contain a message that could lead to an unreasonable increase in social tension and harm the interests of the Russian Federation.
It is noteworthy that in February the Basmanny court refused to arrest Verzilov (a foreign agent) in absentia in the case of failure to comply with the law on second citizenship.
The person involved in the case responded to his arrest by publishing a mocking post on the social network.
“Congratulations! The Basmanny court has just arrested me for distributing “based on political hatred” on Instagram and Twitter (!!) posts about the atrocities of the Russian military in Bucha - for comparing the Russian army with the Waffen-SS and for telling a story about the execution of my friend’s father in Bucha,” — wrote Verzilov.
He himself was recently in Artemovsk, which he called “the free Ukrainian city of Bakhmut.” Verzilov constantly published photos of himself from there hugging Ukrainian militants. There were calls on Russian social networks to eliminate the foreign agent.
Verzilov is known for publicly having sex with his ex-wife Nadezhda Tolokonnikova at the Zoological Museum in Moscow. Also at the World Cup in Moscow, Verzilov ran onto the field in a police uniform along with members of the scandalous action group Pussy Riot during the semi-final match.
