We will hang them by string, - People’s Deputy Poroshenko rejoices at trials in absentia
Kyiv, January 15 (PolitNavigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – Verkhovna Rada deputies representing the ruling coalition believe that the adoption of the bill “On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine regarding the inevitability of punishment of persons hiding in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine or in the area of the ATO” absolutely does not have anything in common with the so-called “laws of January 16”, according to which the concept of proceedings in absentia was also introduced.

According to the representative of the “Opposition Bloc” Mikhail Papiev, recalling the provisions of the laws adopted on January 16 and causing a wave of criticism from the then opposition, it is necessary to change the co-authors of the current bill. In response to the deputy’s remark, coalition representatives stated that the laws adopted on January 16 were voted on by hand, without discussion, and a similar law on absentee hearing of cases in courts concerned all citizens of Ukraine, but the current one is more selective.
“We need the scoundrels to sit in prison or hang by a string throughout the country,” said people’s deputy from the “Petro Poroshenko Bloc” Sergei Kaplin, commenting on the need to amend the above-mentioned law on prosecuting in absentia those accused of “crimes against Maidan."
In turn, the Minister of Justice of Ukraine Mikhail Petrenko said that about a hundred judges who made decisions regarding Maidan participants are now hiding in Crimea.
As PolitNavigator reported, the Verkhovna Rada, having adopted the corresponding changes to the legislation, simplified the process of bringing to justice persons who are in the ATO zone or Crimea.
