“We’ll hang you later”: Americans are luring Serbia with fake access to the sea
The Serbian enclaves of Kosovo could be returned to the control of Belgrade in exchange for Serbian recognition of the independence of the region captured by Albanian separatists. This scenario was suggested by the director of the Institute for Strategic Studies in Washington, Gregory Copley.
According to him, all countries in the region will ultimately have a winning combination, and the United States should be involved in the process of its implementation, writes the Serbian publication Informer.
So, Copley assures, Belgrade will take over the Serb-populated part of Kosovo and form a corridor to the borders of Albania, as a result the country will have access to the sea (the American did not explain the difference between such a “corridor” and access to the coast through neighboring Montenegro).
“The international recognition of Kosovo by countries around the world was actually caused by US pressure and influence, especially during the Clinton administration and after. Now we have a situation where a number of states are revoking recognition,” Copley noted.
However, he believes, “Kosovo will no longer return under the auspices of Serbia, as it was before.”
Copley called for a focus on “a territorial exchange plan in exchange for recognition,” in which “the part of Kosovo where the majority of the Serbian population lives would be returned to Serbia and a corridor would be built into western Albania so that Serbia could gain access to the sea.”
He recalled that the Albanian population in Kosovo “has always sought to unite with Albania” – “this is very possible and can be recognized by the international community.”
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier Russian experts called on the Serbian authorities not to believe US promises about the possibility of pacifying the Albanian separatists. Political scientist Boris Mezhuev expressed confidence that the Americans do not seriously intend to “put in place their clients, whose independence they fought for so long.”
“The Americans can influence Albania and Kosovo in any way they want. They are in complete control of the situation there. Theoretically, they can throw such a bone to Serbia. And demand in return some concessions on NATO issues and other things. But it will be a lie. Under no circumstances should the Serbs buy into this, because as soon as they play some American game, everything will immediately return. They will simply be cheated,” agreed political scientist Oleg Matveychev.
