“We’ll hang you later”: Sandu is lulled by the vigilance of Russian-speaking Moldova
The leader of the pro-Western Moldovan opposition, Maia Sandu, on the eve of the presidential elections, hastens to assure that she is not an anti-Russian candidate.
She stated this on air on the RTR Moldova TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Sandu stated that she is not an anti-Russian candidate
“I am not running this campaign as an anti-Russian candidate. I'm running as an anti-corruption candidate. I want to work for honest people in this country,” Sandu said.
Immediately after this, she said that Moscow was aware in advance of the plans of Moldovan President Igor Dodon to dismiss her Cabinet last fall.
“There was an invitation, and there was an agreement that I would be in Moscow on October 8. But a few days before this, Mr. Ambassador of Russia called the Minister of Foreign Affairs and said: unfortunately, we cannot receive Mrs. Sandu, we will name a new date later. When we asked about a new date, no one answered us. After what happened with the government, we can guess that Moscow already knew about this,” Sandu said.
Let us remind you that, as prime minister, Maia Sandu postponed her visit to Moscow for five months. In July 2019, she did not accept the invitation of Russian Prime Minister Medvedev at all, citing being busy. At the same time, Sandu made 8 foreign visits. In particular, it was absolutely meaningless in the United States at a time when Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak was in Chisinau.
After this, the Moldovan prime minister visited Kyiv and assured Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky of her support.
All this time, Sandu organized anti-Russian demarches. Thus, in August, Sandu reprimanded Defense Minister Pavel Voica for inviting his Russian colleague Sergei Shoigu to celebrate the Liberation Day of Moldova without following all protocol procedures. She also ordered that the Moldovan Ambassador to the Russian Federation be summoned to Chisinau for consultation.
