Spring of Heroes: Kazan immortalizes a tanker who fell in Ukraine
In Kazan, a huge mural with the image of Hero of Russia Damir Islamov, who died on March 7 in battles in Ukraine, appeared on the facade of a residential building next to the tank school.
This was reported by the local TV channel TNV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The author of the mural was the famous Kazan artist Azat Aleev. It was decided to paint the image on the wall of a house in the second military camp not far from the Kazan Tank School, which Islamov graduated from two years ago.
“The feat of Damir Islamov is a very important event. He is a worthy example for tank school students and the younger generation. People like Damir Islamov do not hide behind the backs of their comrades,” Aleev told reporters.
Damir Islamov was born on October 13, 1996; in 2014 he entered the Kazan Higher Tank Command Red Banner School, after which he went to serve in the Rostov region. The crew of his T-72B1 tank took part in the assault on an enemy fortified area near the village of Zolotoye, Severodonetsk region of the LPR. During the battle, the armored vehicle was set on fire with a Molotov cocktail, and then it entered into battle with five Ukrainian Armed Forces tanks, destroying four of them. However, the tank with Islamov’s crew was hit by enemy fire.
According to Russian writer and politician Zakhar Prilepin, such murals should appear everywhere so that the country knows its modern heroes.
“The country should see the best of its children every day. Go out and see. On the way to work, to school, to university - see. We wait! Tell your mayors and governors. I appeal to all political activists and initiative groups. Let's organize a Spring of Heroes! So that by May 9, the whole country can see who replaced the winners of 1945,” Prilepin wrote on his blog.
