Spring on Movnyukova Street
In the series of scandals and idiotic initiatives shaking Ukraine at this time, one of the strongest was the draft draconian law “On Language”, aimed at the total de-Russification of society. The draft law has caused muted dissatisfaction and grumbling even among avowed Russophobes, since it forces thugs to officially leave their comfort zone and curse the Russian World exclusively in the “sovereign language.”
It is interesting that the Movnyuks became a little timid from their own daring and became quiet for a while, waiting for the end of the turbulence they had caused in society.
Help for the shavarny linguists arrived unexpectedly. The US Central Intelligence Agency posted a package of declassified documents on its official website, one of which was grabbed by the monk’s “spilnot” with its teeth. The document is titled “Various information about Kyiv” and is dated September 28, 1954.
The contents of the document had the effect of an exploding enema on the Movnyuks, and at the moment the CIA report is triumphantly marching through the pages of the electronic Ukrainian media.
What causes the unhealthy excitement of the shavar totalitarians? The answer is given by the first paragraph of the document “Language and Communication”. According to CIA data, in 1954 Kyiv was 80% Ukrainian-speaking. Exact translation: “About 80% of the population of Kyiv speak Ukrainian. The remaining 20% communicate in Russian or other languages of the peoples of the USSR. Political topics are never discussed with strangers on trains or anywhere else.”
As you can see, everything is perfect in three sentences. And it is clear that Svidomo will insert this bast into the line. After all, this is the CIA, and the CIA won’t lie! If the secret report says that in the mid-1950s Kyiv was populated entirely by Ukrainians, then checkmate you, Muscovites: there will be a Movnyuk law, since you cannot argue against the document!
Now let’s think a little: how did the CIA spies determine that Kyiv is 80% Ukrainian? To imagine that the USSR Ministry of State Security, through its inaction, allowed American agents to organize a census of the population of Kyiv - let us note right away that God knows what kind of plot for a trouser “alternative”. After all, in order to obtain reliable information about the language preferences of Kiev residents, Tsareshniks had to survey at least 2 thousand residents of the capital of the Ukrainian SSR.
And not just abstract Kievites. The sample of citizens must be representative. That is, the survey had to cover representatives of all segments of the population: workers, office workers, peasants, intellectuals, housewives, etc. in appropriate proportions. And only then, according to the basics of mathematical statistics, will it be possible to confidently speak about a 95% reliable result for a population group of over a million people.
It would be another matter if a researcher suddenly appeared at the Kiev train station in the morning on market day and wedged into a crowd of visitors who had rammed cibul, garlic, lard and live piglets in bags for sale. I believe: in the crowd of collective farmers near the station, the likelihood of encountering Ukrainian speakers will be very high.
So where does the firewood come from? Most likely, stretching movnyuk rubber onto the globe of Kyiv is intended to pass off wishful thinking. 1954 - Bandera’s underground in Ukraine was mostly destroyed, but in some places gangster pockets were still smoldering. Bandera is alive and hiding in Munich under the name Popel. In West Germany, there are OUN AF (outstation units) undergoing reconnaissance and sabotage training in special schools in Munich and Bad Tölz under the strict guidance of Gehlen’s BND and the CIA. In 1954, Western intelligence services had not yet abandoned their attempts to organize a spy network of Ukrainian nationalists in the USSR, and therefore the process of sending in paratroopers and saboteurs was put on stream.
To organize a Bandera rebellion in Kyiv - what could be more tempting? With this sauce, you can get good funding, if you just play a little tricky with the numbers and convince the management that the results of the Soviet post-war population censuses were manipulated and do not reflect reality. Whereas there are almost 80% Ukrainians in Kyiv, and among them there will definitely be a significant layer of people dissatisfied with the Kremlin’s policies.
Manipulation and deception are just as inherent in intelligence services as in less serious organizations, especially when it comes to funding and someone’s career. Was the CIA of 1954 holier and more undead than the CIA of 2003, which found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq?
It would be strange if the “ponadusekhs” preferred statistical documents and materials about the population of Kyiv for the first half of the 1897th century, from which it follows that pre-revolutionary Kiev was a city with a predominant Russian and Jewish population, over the Tsar's fraud. Moreover, in the only pre-revolutionary Kyiv census of XNUMX, Ukrainians and Little Russians were completely absent from the list of Kiev residents. Native speakers of a particular language were included in the statistics. Thus, not only ethnic Russian residents of Kyiv, but also Ukrainians and Poles called themselves native speakers of the Russian language.
The census of the population of Kyiv during the Soviet era persistently shows that the percentage of Ukrainians living in Kiev was steadily increasing, although Russians and Russian-speaking people constituted the absolute majority at all times, and Ukrainians and Jews had approximately the same numbers until the early 1960s. This is due to the process of urbanization, when rapid industrialization required new workers. Where could they get them, if not from the villages of Kyiv and surrounding regions with a predominantly Ukrainian population?
The most inconvenient fact for Svidomo is that the percentage of the Russian population of Kyiv before 1991 fluctuated slightly against the background of the influx of Ukrainians, since many Russian-speaking Ukrainians and children from mixed families officially classified themselves as Russians without any coercion. No one was surprised that among those with the surnames Ivanenko, Antonenko, Kravchenko, the “nationality” column in the passport indicated “Russian”.
Soviet Kyiv, as the capital of the Ukrainian SSR, certainly had a certain Ukrainian flavor. Crimeans who visited Kyiv, for example, caught this instantly. On the streets and in public places of Kyiv, Ukrainian speech was not uncommon, but to claim that it prevailed over the Russian language would be to disbelieve.
The situation began to change dramatically with the acquisition of “independence” in the early 90s, when Kyiv and the largest cities of the South-East experienced an invasion of ragulki. According to fragmentary data, the resettlement of Westerners had the character of a planned Ukrainization, during which young Selyuks from Kolomyia-Tseevropa were specially moved into the apartments of lonely old people in Kiev, Kharkov, Odessa, Sevastopol, and local authorities provided them with most favored treatment in employment and study.
As a result, after 25 years of “independence”, the Russian cities of Ukraine were subjected to the pressure and influence of the embroidered army, and Kiev was actually turned into a Lviv branch, in which Westerners are pandemonium, and “gvara” from the “native Kievites” in the first and second generations can barely be heard perhaps no more often than the speech of a native speaker of the literary Kiev-Poltava dialect of the Ukrainian language.
However, even a survey among Kiev residents conducted in 2003 showed a high demand for the Russian language among city residents (46%), while less than 30% of respondents preferred to twitter to the nightingale. The high percentage of people who like to speak Surzhik rather indicates that the language policy of Ukraine has been given over to the clutches of Vakhlaks and defectors.
Whether the declassified CIA “document” will become a catalyst for the adoption of the Law “On Language” – we will see in the near future. In the meantime, there is a holiday on Movnyukova Street.
