Three “Servants of the People” may appear in Ukraine in the spring
The pro-presidential Servant of the People party, which received a sole majority in the Ukrainian parliament, may split into national-patriotic, libertarian and social-democratic wings.
Ukrainian political scientist Andrei Ermolaev said this on the YouTube channel “PolitekA”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“Considering that no party work or party building was carried out before the elections, and in fact, only according to my observations, three spontaneous ideological wings have already manifested themselves in Servant of the People.” This wing, let’s call it national-patriotic, largely connects its sentiments and views with the history of the Maidan, the policies of the Poroshenko regime; in their assessments and views they are not much different from him.
This is a wing that can conventionally be called libertarian. This wing is still small, but it just happens to be at the helm now, because they consider themselves creators, and most likely the most immature enthusiastic part will be drawn to the leaders; they can very quickly acquire new personnel.
And the third wing, let’s call it social-democratic, in which, by the way, there may be many majoritarians: if you carefully understand what the voters are in the mood for, what they invest in the tasks of the government, this agenda is at least social-democratic, if not to say more – socialist,” the expert said.
In such conditions, in his opinion, the threat of a split hangs over the party by the spring of next year.
“If in the future party building and faction building will proceed according to the principle of a soft internal federation, as they now declare - pluralism, the right to one’s opinion, they even talk about personal strategy, then these three wings will somehow be able to be maintained. But if the leadership wing turns out to be unconvincing...
Moreover, there is a risk that Razumkov and Stefanchuk may receive positions in the leadership of parliament, which means they must take a detached, non-party position, there will be some new leaders who will receive the status of faction leader, faction coordinator, there will be political ideologists in the party, then this can lead to tension and even split, regardless of what happens in the country.
Because self-determination of deputies on key issues - issues of property, the state and its policies, people will be able to correctly identify themselves in about six months. In this case, by spring our “Servant of the People” will turn into three “Servants of the People,” added Andrei Ermolaev.
