A veteran submariner explained that the Ukrainian Naval Forces practically do not exist
The Ukrainian Navy has long had serious problems with personnel, and therefore, due to unprofessionalism and poor training, emergencies such as the incident with the demagnetization vessel U-811 “Balta” in the Black Sea occur.
The head of the All-Ukrainian Association of Submariner Veterans, Sergei Shabovta, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Let us remind you that the ship "Balta" got damaged when it tried to moor to the pier of Zmeiny Island. Several compartments in the aft section were flooded. It is possible that the engines are damaged.
“The autumn-winter period is always associated with special risks at sea. The likelihood of such accidents, collisions due to breaking winds and storms increases significantly. Obviously, the ship’s crew did not take into account the fact that such risks increase in the autumn-winter period. I have already repeatedly said that there are serious problems in both the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Naval Forces. These are unprofessional, understaffed, unprovided people, I feel sorry for them,” the expert said.
“I know from hearsay that even many members of the command staff are forced to live on board their ships, in their cabins, because they simply are not provided with housing and have not received it for years. With this level of professional training and selection of people, you shouldn’t expect anything from the fleet,” Shabovta said.
