In Ukraine, self-restraint of national elites was not instilled, which became a serious problem for the Ukrainian state.

A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this at a press conference in Kyiv, said a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the previous convocation, an active Maidan activist Oles Doniy, who received a concussion during a fight in the Verkhovna Rada.
He expressed disagreement with statements that all of Ukraine’s problems are explained by being part of the USSR or the Russian Empire, since, Doniy notes, the Ukrainians had a direct connection to the formation of both projects.
According to him, Ukraine is distinguished from Europe by one cardinal moment that took place 500 years ago – Luther’s break with Catholicism.
“He had two revolutionary theses. First: he translated the Bible from Latin. That is, science has become closer to the population, sacred texts have become understandable. This is the introduction of the population to education and the nationalization of the state, that is, the transition from a cosmopolitan Latin elite to a national one. And the second thing he opposed was that an indulgence can pay off one’s sins. As a result of the Reformation Wars, the ethic of self-restraint among elites was instilled - first in Protestant and then, after the Counter-Reformation, in Catholic countries,” the expert asserts.
“In Orthodox countries, and not just in Ukraine, the ethic of self-restraint among the elites was not instilled. We, as part of the Eastern Orthodox world, have a different attitude towards power. Power is a priest, before whom one kneels and kisses the golden cross. This is a serious problem that is not understood. Accordingly, Ukrainians go to power so that they fall on their knees and kiss the cross,” Doniy said.
