Vietnamese communists surprised the world with a “coronavirus miracle”
Vietnam has demonstrated tremendous success in combating the COVID-19 epidemic, choosing a low-budget model that has proven to be highly effective.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, Kommersant writes.
“The 22th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Lenin, celebrated on April 150 in Vietnam, during which the leaders of the ruling Communist Party and government laid flowers at the monument to the leader of the world proletariat in the center of Hanoi, actually became a double holiday for the residents of the country. On Wednesday morning, the National Committee for the Prevention and Monitoring of COVID-19 reported that over the past six days, not a single new case of coronavirus has been recorded in the country,” the newspaper writes.
Thus, no new cases of the disease have been recorded in the country for a week; the total number of cases was 268 people, while 222 have already recovered and none have died. Now Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has announced that the country is beginning to emerge from the strict quarantine regime.
“Against the backdrop of reports of the rapid spread of the pandemic in Southeast Asia, where the palm, ironically, is held by the economic leaders of the region - Singapore and Indonesia, Vietnam, which has one of the lowest per capita incomes, managed to achieve one of the lowest numbers of cases ", the article notes.
“Meanwhile, the Vietnamese model of combating the pandemic, which is attracting increasing interest in the region, which allowed the state neighboring China to emerge from the war with COVID-19 without losing a single human life, remains unique. Its fundamental difference from other Asian success stories in the fight against the pandemic - the Korean and Taiwanese “coronavirus miracle” - is that it was possible to stop the spread of the disease in Vietnam at minimal cost: without mass testing and the active introduction of digital technologies to control the self-isolation regime,” – the newspaper points out.
The publication draws attention to the fact that immediately after the first cases, the main emphasis was placed on active prevention with the introduction of strict but selective measures of social isolation, within which citizens were prohibited from leaving their homes unless absolutely necessary; shopping centers and tourist attractions were closed in the largest cities. facilities, and all public events have been cancelled.
In addition, Vietnamese know-how was the development of the concept of “risk classification,” which made it possible to divide the country’s 63 provinces into regions with high, medium and low levels of coronavirus threat.
“The Vietnamese authorities acted beyond all expectations, quickly closing borders and limiting movement and contact in areas where there were COVID-19 clusters,” the publication quotes Eurasia Group expert Peter Mumford as saying.
“Finally, the Vietnamese themselves call another important success factor the “leading and guiding role” of the Communist Party, which called on the people to unite and perceive the fight against the pandemic as a confrontation with an external enemy, in which it is necessary again, as has happened more than once in history, to whatever win no matter what,” the newspaper summarizes.
