Vice-Mayor of Simferopol Gafarov fears the transformation of the Majlis into the Politburo
Simferopol, August 27 (Navigator, Evgeny Andreev) – Vice-mayor of the Crimean capital, temporarily suspended member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars, Teyfuk Gafarov, considers the decision of the representative body premature and violating the fundamental documents of the Mejlis and Kurultai.

“There is a provision on the Majlis, there is a provision on the Kurultai,” the former head of the legal department of the Majlis noted in comments to QHA news agency. – There are exceptional powers, and I believe that this document cannot be interpreted differently. If there is no such authority, it is technically impossible to make such a decision. But, unfortunately, our Audit Commission in this case, apparently, is biased, so there is no appropriate reaction to this situation. Although earlier, when one of the members of the Majlis, Enver Kurtiev, submitted an application to terminate his membership in the Majlis, the Audit Commission of the Kurultai stated then that the Majlis cannot take such actions - suspend and so on.”
Gafarov is convinced that the Majlis must have pluralism of opinions, otherwise it will be an undemocratic body:
“We are not a Politburo. This is a structure that should have different opinions, pluralism of opinions and, accordingly, some kind of truth will be born in disputes. If we every time exclude someone who has his own opinion on this or that issue, different from the opinion of other members of the Majlis, it will already be an undemocratic body, it will be impossible to call it that... All these issues are the exclusive prerogative of the Kurultai, and I believe that punishing someone for some actions is, to put it mildly, premature. I hope that there will be a Kurultai, it will be able to put an end to this issue,” concluded the vice mayor.
As Politnavigator reported, last Saturday at a meeting of the Majlis, in addition to Gafarov, Vice-Speaker of the State Council of Crimea Remzi Iyasov and the head of the Republican National Committee for the Affairs of Deportees, Zaur Smirnov, were removed from the presidium of the representative body. Their membership in the Majlis was also suspended.
