“The collapse of the socio-economic space of Ukraine could lead to the migration of at least 500 thousand Ukrainians to Poland,” says Piechocinsky.
In his opinion, the Ukrainian crisis is one of the most serious threats to Poland.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the Polish government noted that “the situation in Ukraine is much more difficult and much more dramatic than we think.” “We need to monitor the process and prepare for different scenarios,” he added.
According to Piechocinski, Poland must present a real picture of what is happening in Ukraine to the EU.
At the end of August, the press secretary of the Polish Office for Foreigners, Ewa Pechota, reported that the number of Ukrainians who had applied for refugee status since 2014 had grown to 4 thousand people, two of them received refugee status in Poland. Also, in relation to several dozen Ukrainian citizens, a decision was made to provide different statuses that allow them to temporarily stay in Poland.
At the same time, in 2015, Poland issued 1 thousand 248 negative decisions on granting refugee status, and in relation to 523 it terminated the consideration of the case.
On Friday, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that thousands of Ukrainians had crossed the border and were taking refuge in Poland as a result of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
