Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Vyacheslav Kirilenko, who is responsible for humanitarian policy and advocates, in particular, for the abolition of the celebration of Cosmonautics Day, was once saved by the famous pro-Russian journalist Alexander Chalenko when the current official drank himself into unconsciousness and collapsed near the toilet.

Chalenko spoke about this incident on his blog.

“I met Deputy Prime Minister Kirilenko, who advocates for postponing Cosmonautics Day, in 1988 in Kyiv in the toilet of block N59 (fourth floor) of hostel N2 on Lomonosova, 37, in which students of the Faculty of Philosophy of Kyiv University lived. It was the end of August.

I was 20 years old then, I had just returned from the army for my second year. I settled on the fifth floor. For some reason, that evening I went into the block where I lived before the army. The guys who lived there were celebrating something.

They also offered me, an uninvited guest, a drink of vodka. Before I had time to sit down at the table, I was immediately lifted up, like the most sober one, and asked to help carry out of the toilet a freshman boy who was dead drunk on vodka and went to the toilet to vomit. Bending over the toilet, he could not stay on his feet, fell “dead,” unconscious, and had been in an unconscious state for a long time.

That’s how I saw him for the first time: a thin body lying near the toilet.

I picked him up from the floor, bent him over the toilet and began to lightly hit him in the stomach. It seemed to me that I would make him vomit in this way. And, I must say, I did. The guy was throwing up

Then I helped carry out this guy, dressed, as I remember, in sweatpants with his knees stretched out.

In general, I saved his life, because lying on his back on the floor, he had every chance of choking on his own vomit, because sooner or later he would have started vomiting.

So, this was the future Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Vyacheslav Kirilenko,” Chalenko said.
