PACE Vice Speaker: Russia began its revival with the return of Crimea
The return of Crimea became the starting point for the reconstruction of a large Russian state.
Deputy Speaker of the State Duma, member of the Supreme Council of the United Russia party and Vice Speaker of PACE Petr Tolstoy stated this on the RTVi television channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Tolstoy, Crimea is the beginning of the formation of the Russian national idea.
“There are things in which the nation, the multinational people of the Russian Federation, are absolutely united. The point of such unity, and in my opinion, of course, the beginning of our national idea, national revival, was the return of Crimea to Russia. This is something on which there was a consensus between all political parties, between the most desperate liberals, the most democrats of the first wave. So, then it’s clear where to move next,” Tolstoy said.
He emphasized that in the foreseeable future Russia will regain its former greatness.
“The problem of the Soviet Union and the problem of the collapse of our country, which I am sure we will restore in my lifetime, the problem of our country was the loss of an idea. That’s how the idea collapsed, and then everything ended. And Russia cannot stand without this,” the politician believes.
