A prominent NATO member gave the command: Choke opponents of the junta on social networks in Ukraine
Social networks in Ukraine “are significantly more influenced by propagandists than in other countries,” ex-NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said at the “Yalta European Strategy” conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We monitored social media when Zakharchenko was killed in Donetsk, and the findings are impressive - on certain social media platforms, a third of conversations are controlled by accounts that were created only for propaganda (Rasmussen obviously implies the presence of points of view that run counter to the theses of the Ukrainian media - ed.).
According to our estimates, in Ukraine all conversations on social media are subject to artificial influence much more than in other countries (here Rasmussen also clearly means not censorship of the Ukrainian authorities, but of social network users not under their control, - ed.). This impact is 50% higher than what we see in other countries where we carry out similar monitoring, such as Sweden, Italy or Mexico,” said Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
According to the former NATO Secretary General, these technologies are “aimed at destroying trust in democratic institutions.”
“Today, throughout the democratic world, this challenge is very serious.. That is why I created a transnational committee to fight for fair elections. We would like to work with business, policymakers and the media on both sides of the Atlantic to find new solutions,” he said.
Anders Fogh Rasmussen recalled that about 2020 election campaigns are planned in European countries, including Ukraine, until 20.
“Today we announced that our working group on Ukrainian elections will monitor interference in elections in Ukraine. We will offer practical solutions to these problems,” he concluded.
