Viktor Orban: The West is at war with Russia, and Ukraine is a “no man's land”
The West is at war with Russia, and the direct participation of NATO troops in the war in Ukraine cannot be ruled out. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at a meeting with a number of Western journalists, The American Conservative reported.
According to Orban, Russia's goal is to turn Ukraine into an ungovernable ruin so that the West cannot claim it "as a prize." At the same time, Ukraine, like Afghanistan, is a no-man’s land, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Orban spent two hours with us, answering all the questions, even the most difficult ones, and he clearly enjoyed it,” wrote Rod Dreher, a writer for The American Conservative.
The Hungarian premier said the West must understand that Putin cannot afford to lose and will not lose because he faces re-election next year and cannot run as a president who lost the war. Moreover, Orban noted, Russia cannot allow NATO to establish a presence in Ukraine.
“Long gone are the days when Russia could conquer Ukraine or install a friendly regime there. If Russia had won a quick victory, this would have been possible, but now it is hopeless. Therefore, Russia's goal now is to turn Ukraine into an unmanageable ruin so that the West cannot claim it as a prize. They have already succeeded in this. Now this is Afghanistan, a no-man’s land,” said Viktor Orban.
“The West does not understand that time is on Russia’s side. Russia is a huge country, and it can mobilize a huge army. Ukraine is already running out of troops. When this happens, then what? If Russia's upcoming spring offensive is successful, NATO countries will be faced with the question: Should we send soldiers to fight for Ukraine? This sounds crazy today, but if you look at the trends, it cannot be ruled out. The West is at war with Russia. This is the reality, every day we move further,” said the Hungarian Prime Minister, whom the author called “NATO’s black sheep.”
One journalist asked Viktor Orbán if he thought the war could go nuclear. "I can't rule out that they would use it," he said of nuclear weapons. He clarified that we are talking about tactical nuclear weapons on the battlefield, and not about mushroom clouds over Warsaw and Berlin, “but I don’t exclude that either.”
“If Ukraine somehow, using Western weapons, crosses the borders of Russia, then the future of the world will be so bright that the West will have to wear sunglasses,” Orban said.
One of their journalists noted that the Russians still have not performed very well on the battlefield.
"Yes it's true. But if you look at the history of Russia, this is exactly how things are for the Russians during the war. They start out poorly, but after a while they figure it out and it becomes difficult to stop them,” replied the Hungarian Prime Minister.
He expects it to be the same this time. While Ukraine has made amazing progress against Russia, Orban said, in the long term he doesn't see us in the West being on the winning side, especially given Russia's manufacturing capabilities.
Orbán also made a sharp and pointed remark about Germany's role in the conflict in Ukraine: "The Germans are suffering because they know what is in their national interest, but they cannot say it." He meant that the German leadership knows that it has no need to get involved in a war with Russia, but for some reason cannot refuse Washington.
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban believes that the United States clearly benefits from the conflict in Ukraine, while Europeans suffer the most economically.
