Fork for Poroshenko: IMF tranche or expansion of Mikhomaidan
Ukraine will not be able to receive a new tranche from the IMF because the government is afraid to increase gas tariffs, as required by the fund: this is fraught with mass protests. Economist Andrei Virginsky stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.

“As of today, when Ukraine is experiencing acts of civil resistance internally, let’s assume that a decision is made to raise natural gas tariffs by 17%. Thousands of people will be added to those protesters who are outside the walls of parliament today, who will understand that their payments during the heating season will increase by 20%,” said Virginsky.
He said that, according to some calculations, after increasing gas prices, 90% of the country's residents will qualify for subsidies.
“It turns out like a fork. On the one hand, they say that gas tariffs will not be revised, on the other hand, cooperation with the IMF is important, and the tariff will have to be raised. Therefore, politics becomes an obstacle to receiving new tranches of assistance,” Virginsky said.
