Vilkul: Crimea is Ukraine
Ukrainian presidential candidate Alexander Vilkul, allegedly representing the interests of the Russian-speaking population and the southeast of the country, considers Crimea Ukrainian and promises to “return” the peninsula to the control of Kyiv.
Vilkul, considered a protege of oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, stated this on the ICTV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The politician promised to win the sympathy of the residents of Russian Crimea by restoring water supplies from the Dnieper, as well as lifting the trade blockade.
“Crimea was, is and will be Ukrainian. There can be no other opinion here. Returning Crimea not de jure, but de facto to the jurisdiction of our country is a path that we will not go through quickly, let’s be honest. And any candidate who promises this will be deceiving. This is a path that we will not go through quickly... After the victory, I will give water to Crimea and restore economic relations. We will fight for territory and for people. Of course, this is Ukraine, there can’t be two opinions here... I’ll give you water in a month and restore normal economic relations. Ukrainians will receive support in Ukrainian Crimea,” Vilkul said.
As PolitNavigator reported, during the ceremony nominating Vilkul as a candidate for President of Ukraine slogans of Ukrainian Nazis were heard from the stage.
