The virologist explained that the seventh coronavirus can no longer be driven out of the population
The coronavirus that caused the current pandemic will most likely remain with humanity forever.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Alexander Semenov, head of the Yekaterinburg Research Institute of Viral Infections of the Vector Scientific Center, spoke about this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, answering the question of why covid has not yet become a seasonal infection, although it has long been predicted.
“Because now there is a very intensive process of morbidity. But among other coronaviruses, the incidence is of a completely different nature; it is outbreak. Only after achieving herd immunity will COVID-19 enter the phase of isolated outbreaks. Yes, most likely, we will not drive him out of the population. We had a chance, but we were too late. Therefore, this will be another – the seventh coronavirus – that we know and which will live with us,” said the virologist.
According to him, as the world population grows, density increases, as mobility and contacts between people increase, new diseases will periodically appear.
“This is a natural process, it happened before us and will happen after us. We just need to make sure that this process brings us less grief, suffering and problems. The most effective protection is truly vaccination,” Semyonov concluded.
