A meeting of representatives of Visa and MasterCard with the Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation Siluanov and First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov is scheduled for May 23.
According to an RBC source close to both Visa and MasterCard, both systems are serious - “there is a readiness to disable card services in Russia from July 1.” According to RBC’s interlocutor, reducing the amount of the security deposit will not stop anyone: “They are not satisfied with the size of the contribution, but the very principle of paying such a contribution - this does not exist in any country in the world where they work.”
If Visa and MasterCard leave Russia, banks will be able to work with them, but card payments will only be possible abroad; cards will be disabled within the country.
