“We talked with Merkel about Kyiv, about self-government, about contacts with Germany, about the problems that exist and areas in which Germany can help, about the development of relations between sister cities. The Chancellor said that she would appeal to the German government and mayors so that there would be greater support for Ukraine, and we could feel help in implementing the reforms that Ukrainians are waiting for,” Klitschko’s press service quotes.
Klitschko said that Merkel urged him to actively use German contacts for the development of Kyiv and the implementation of reforms.
“The Chancellor turned to me: Vitaly, you have good contacts in Germany, everyone knows you, please use them. And I, of course, will do this,” Klitschko said.
The meeting with the German Chancellor was also attended by the mayors of Zaporozhye, Donetsk, Lvov, and the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of the Crimean Tatar People, Mustafa Dzhemilev.
As Navigator reported, Merkel flew to Kyiv today to discuss the situation in Ukraine and relations with Russia. Merkel met with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
