The VKS lost the Il-76 transport aircraft
A Russian military transport aircraft Il-76 crashed in the Ivanovo region. There were 15 people on board.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On March 12, at about 13:00 Moscow time, while taking off for a scheduled flight, an Il-76 military transport aircraft crashed in the Ivanovo region. There were eight crew members and seven passengers on board,” the Russian defense ministry said.
It is noted that the cause of the Il-76 crash was the ignition of one of the engines.
A Ministry of Defense commission flew to the Ivanovo airfield to establish the causes of the crash.
“Previously, the plane tried to make an emergency landing and did not reach the runway,” writes military correspondent Yuri Kotenok.
Military analyst Mikhail Zvinchuk (Tg channel “Rybar”) shares the same opinion, noting that initially the engine fire was extinguished, but then it fell off in flight.
“According to preliminary data, the crew tried to reach the runway, but, unfortunately, could not. A large fire broke out at the crash site. The reason was most likely a technical malfunction,” added Zvinuchuk’s channel.
