Vladislav Shurygin: “Moscow” was not destroyed by a Ukrainian missile
The fire on the Moskva cruiser was not caused by a Ukrainian missile hit, but by a so-called protracted shot, in which burning gunpowder fell into the space of an artillery gun.
Military expert Vladislav Shurygin stated this on the video blog of journalist Andrei Karaulov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Shurygin emphasized that the cruiser served in the navy for four decades, and for the last month it has been conducting active combat work with this weapon.
“The problem was with the shot. On ships with a large caliber there is such a thing, the so-called lingering shot, when the gunpowder, due to certain circumstances, begins not to detonate, but to burn.
If in this case the automatic discharger works a little earlier for reloading, then such a burning projectile, a powder charge, falls into the space of the artillery gun. Then, if you don’t figure it out in time and don’t have time to do something, a massive fire starts, which spreads further to the powder compartment...
To some extent, as far as I understand, this is what happened. There were no traces of any missile attacks.
This can happen to any crew - look at the statistics of American maritime disasters; sometimes entire nuclear submarines are written off after an error or some set of circumstances.
The cruiser served for 40 years, and everything was fine. And now he has fought for a month, even more, constantly firing at ground targets from these weapons.
And this thing happened, nothing can be done,” Shurygin said.
