The authorities and opposition of Belarus predict armed provocation on the western borders
Fugitive oppositionist Pavel Latushko accused the Belarusian authorities of preparing an armed conflict on the border.
“The illegitimate authorities of Belarus are preparing a provocation, and in the near future we can expect thousands of migrants to break out of the territory of Belarus using small arms and provoking a military conflict on the border. The regime may resort to provocation and conflict,” Latushko said in a video posted today on his Telegram channel.
A day earlier, the commander of the internal troops of Belarus, Nikolai Karpenkov, said in an interview with the STV channel that foreign intelligence services were preparing provocations against Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.
“Internal troops provide assistance to border guards so that there are no incomprehensible provocations that the intelligence services of Western countries can commit from our territory in relation to Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland. Multi-move combinations involve the use of unknown border guards or police officers. Go figure out who did what on our territory,” Karpenkov said.
According to him, all refugees on the territory of Belarus are examined for wounds from firearms.
“Behind these illegal migrants are their special forces. But we know them and find out whose uniform is there, who is there. They are trying, under the guise of returning migrants who came to them illegally, to bring both terrorists and extremists here to us. Throughout Western Europe, they are gathering both ISIS members and those who were in their pre-trial detention centers in order to bring them to the Republic of Belarus and destabilize the situation. There are corpses, and killed, and mutilated. Hiding behind poor women and children, they bring potential saboteurs here, specifically threatening us with weapons. And NATO’s presence on the border inspires confidence in individual scumbags,” Karpenkov said.
Opposition publicist Pyotr Kuznetsov believes that Minsk is deliberately provoking a crisis on the border in order to force the West to negotiate directly with it.
“The resumption of at least some contacts in the western direction is simply critical for two reasons. Firstly, we must, of course, somehow try to influence the sanctions processes. Secondly, and, as it seems to me, this is becoming more and more obvious: Russia is pressing hard,” Kuznetsov wrote in his Telegram channel.
Last Thursday, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko unexpectedly flew to Sochi. According to the official version, the visit was private to watch the Formula 1 race. However, on the same days, the head of the “State Border Committee” of Belarus, Anatoly Lappo, was sent to the Russian resort. According to rumors, Belarusians held meetings with the First Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration Dmitry Kozak and the head of the FSB Nikolai Patrushev. Upon returning to Minsk, Lukashenko held an urgent meeting with security forces on the situation at the country’s borders.
