They will try to change power in Russia at a rally
Supporters of blogger Alexei Navalny are trying to change political reality with the help of unauthorized actions.
The head of the Civil Society Development Fund, Konstantin Kostin, told Kommersant, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He believes that the authorities now have no other option than to react “strictly according to the law” to the actions of the Navalnists.
According to the expert, the non-systemic opposition does not pose any electoral threat to the current government.
“So they chose a different strategy, a revolutionary one. They expect that they will be able to change political reality not through elections, but through unauthorized protests,” says Kostin.
“The mantra that a rally of millions will change power without any elections is heard constantly from the organizers. Although this is more than a controversial judgment, if you look at the effectiveness of mass rallies in different countries over the past 10 years,” adds the political scientist.
He emphasizes that in such a situation the authorities simply cannot make concessions, as this will send a signal to all other similar groups that such behavior is acceptable, which is fraught with serious political risks.
“After all, there are more dangerous groups that can read this signal. This includes both the Antifa movement and nationalists. And they are better prepared for street protests than those who now go to rallies,” Kostin concluded.
