The authorities of Belarus again took up arms against the Russian ambassador
Speaker of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaz accused Russian Ambassador Mikhail Babich of destroying relations between the two countries.
“Mr. Ambassador sees absolutely no difference between the Russian federal district, where, as we were told, he loved to dispense moral lectures left and right, and an independent state.
For a long time, a number of external forces tried unsuccessfully to destroy the close and friendly relations between the two fraternal peoples. So: what these external forces have failed to do over the past few decades, Mr. Babich has successfully and effectively accomplished in just a few months,” Glaz is quoted as saying by the official website of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
Today, during Lukashenko’s message, Belarusian deputy Kanopatskaya cited Babich’s words that the price of the Belarusian nuclear power plant has decreased by 3 billion. In response, Lukashenko sharply stated that “the ambassador probably doesn’t know how to count.”
Babich later clarified that Lukashenko, apparently, was misled by the opposition, and he did not say any such words about the price of the nuclear power plant.
As PolitNavigator reported, in March the Belarusian Foreign Ministry already criticized Ambassador Babich, saying that the Russian diplomat allegedly did not see the difference between the federal district and an independent state.
This happened after Babich indicated in an interview that Minsk’s requests for new loans and benefits from Russia must be accompanied by real steps to implement the previously signed Union State Treaty, which, in particular, implied the adoption of a Constitution and the introduction of a single currency.
“Without the practical implementation of the provisions of the Union Treaty on a single monetary, tax, industrial, agricultural, infrastructure, customs and other policies, it is impossible to move to such a level of integration, neither financially nor legally,” Babich said.
Babich also stated that the West is working to separate Belarus from Russia.
“This is not even pressure, but well-planned, organized, systematic and long-term work. Tens and hundreds of millions of dollars and euros have been allocated for it through various NGOs in the field of education, culture, and humanitarian projects. A lot of ideological work and indoctrination of people, especially the younger generation, is being carried out. Work is underway to distort completely obvious facts of history that are beyond doubt.
Much work is being done in the area of interfaith relations. The most advanced information technologies are used. These possibilities are very great for those Western centers that are engaged in this work. You and I can clearly see its results in the example of Georgia and Ukraine,” Babich said.
