“When someone is elected president, he always intends to first visit some neighboring state. This is exactly how we feel about his idea to come to Donbass,” said the speaker of the Supreme Council of the DPR Denis Pushilin, RIA Novosti reports.
He stressed that any negotiations with the new President of Ukraine are possible only in the presence of mediators.
“I see only two topics possible to discuss with him: the exchange of hostages that we and Kiev have, and the withdrawal of Ukrainian occupation forces from the territory of the DPR,” Pushilin said.
Co-chairman of the government of the “Donetsk People’s Republic” Miroslav Rudenko also expressed doubts about the possibility of a constructive dialogue between the DPR and Ukraine if Petro Poroshenko comes to power.
“There may be some kind of conversation, but only if he stops the military operation, withdraws troops from the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and recognizes our sovereignty. But I doubt that he will take such steps,” Rudenko said, as quoted by Interfax.
“We do not have any particular hopes for dialogue with this person also because he is the one who sponsors and supports the current Kyiv government, he supported the revolution and the military operation against the people of Donbass. What kind of dialogue can there be here?” – said Rudenko.
As Navigator reported, Petro Poroshenko, who, according to exit polls, won the first round of the presidential election, promised to make his first visit as president to Donbass.
