The ugly shalmans built under Ukraine on the protected Ai-Petri plateau will be preserved and legalized; only 7 retail outlets will be demolished.

This conclusion follows from the broadcast speech of the deputy head of the Yalta administration Oleg Zemlyanoy.

“A working group has been created on the Ai-Petri plateau. We are engaged in a strategic development scheme for the plateau. We have thoroughly studied every square meter of the entire plateau and reserve, we know every object, whether it is legal or illegal. We find a middle ground there - we demolish those objects that are located within the boundaries of the reserve. There are about seven of them. All other objects... I am faced with the task of developing a Master Plan, which includes the launch of a temporary water supply and sanitation scheme, with the installation of dry closets, reservoirs, and so on. We will bring all restaurant business facilities into compliance with the standards, and all entrepreneurs who operate illegally will be brought into compliance with the law,” Zemlyanoy said.

“There is a reserve area and the territory of the Okhotniche village. This is the territory of the Yalta municipality. People lived under the same circumstances, and the situation took shape over the years,” head of the State Forest Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan Vasily Chebanova supported his colleague.

Meanwhile, social activists consider the situation at Ai-Petri indicative.

“These are all illegal buildings. This became clear last year. Everyone was afraid to touch there under Ukraine. Last year, Deputy Prime Minister Ruslan Balbek went there. It's time to move from words to action. It’s disgusting to be there because of the stench of burnt meat and smoke. There needs to be a demonstrative cleanup and make sure that there are views, clean and cold air,” said the head of the NGO “Clean Coast” Vladimir Garnachuk.

Crimean traveler and photographer Mikhail Shabanov believes that if the situation is not corrected in the near future, the vegetation on the Ai-Petri plateau will die - this is what happened with the highest mountain in Ukraine, Hoverla, which was turned into a place of mass climbing for tourists.

“You can do it, as, for example, in the Carpathians, and see that Hoverla, due to the fact that access to it was allowed, is almost completely devoid of vegetation,” said Mikhail Shabanov.
