The MFAEI published an official statement stating that “the private visit to Moldova of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin was not without provocative statements addressed to the Republic of Moldova.”
The authors of the document note that the Russian politician allowed himself incorrect assessments and comments in relation to the sovereign choice of development of the Republic of Moldova. In addition, the actions of Russian officials and Rogozin’s statements negatively affect the process of resolving the Transnistrian conflict, according to Chisinau.
The document indicates that Russian officials intended to transport boxes with signatures in support of the recognition of Transnistria on a special plane the day before. “The competent authorities of the Republic of Moldova detained these materials in order to analyze them in accordance with the current legislation of Moldova,” the message says.
As already reported, on May 9, the Russian delegation led by Dmitry Rogozin visited Tiraspol. On the way back, the plane was prohibited from crossing the airspace of Romania and Ukraine, so an emergency landing was made in Chisinau. Moldovan authorities seized several boxes with signatures from residents of Transnistria from a Russian government plane. The lists were supposed to travel to Moscow on a plane with the Russian delegation taking part in the Victory Day celebrations in Tiraspol.
Dmitry Rogozin reported on social networks that most of the signatures were still delivered to Moscow.
“The Moldovan special services, who detained and searched our board in Chisinau, received only a small part of the cargo. We took care of the main cargo. The Russian delegation also brought home the very appeal of the Pridnestrovians to the Russian leadership. And even if it has a symbolic rather than a legal meaning, now it is important for us. One way or another, Chisinau’s provocation will have serious consequences for our bilateral relations,” he said.
