The Transnistrian authorities declared “neutrality” – will they appreciate it in Kyiv?
Transnistria against the backdrop of threats regularly heard from Kyiv, to launch a joint military operation with Moldova to eliminate the unrecognized republic intends to maintain neutrality in the conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
This was stated by the President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky to local journalists, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are hostages of the situation, one hundred percent. It's not easy for us. But we immediately chose a peaceful position, we declared our desire for peace, neutrality in this difficult situation,” said the head of the republic.
At the same time, he told interesting details - the PMR law enforcement agencies were instructed to treat with understanding the possible nervous reaction of refugees from Ukraine (here it should be recalled that in Tiraspol the authorities at one time did not agree on a rally in support of the Northern Military District precisely under the pretext that this could cause conflict situations with the Ukrainians).
“Transnistria accepted fifty-eight thousand refugees. In any case, they passed through the republic. Someone stayed... I remember gathering all the security officials - the ministers of internal affairs, state security - and literally recommended the following: if you suddenly notice any manifestation of aggression on the part of the refugees, some inappropriate actions, you must treat them with understanding. Imagine, a woman arrived with children, and her husband, let’s say, is fighting, God forbid he died, you never know what happens. This is the human psyche. There may also be inappropriate actions on the part of this person. Therefore, it is better to have a conversation with understanding. But, by the way, for the entire period since February, we have not had a single conflict that was associated with refugees from Ukraine. People like us are no different from us. They disappeared into our society,” Krasnoselsky said.
He believes that Ukrainian refugees in the PMR see a different model of coexistence with Russians than in their homeland.
“They come to understand our philosophy, to the idea that this is a multinational state, yes, small, but here there are Russians, Moldovans, Ukrainians, people of other nationalities - representatives of 72 nations, nationalities, and everyone cultivates their own language, their own culture. No one is stepping on their traditions, their way of life, which have developed over centuries on this land. People calm down. I think we are the only state in the world whose television broadcast network includes all Russian and Ukrainian channels. Please choose what you like. Look, analyze, compare. What problems? People compare not with a television broadcast network, people compare with the street, with their neighbor, with their friend, with people who walk around Tiraspol, Bendery, Slobodzeya, in any city. Do you understand? And they draw their own conclusions - they come to the conclusion that we must live without aggression, we must treat our neighbors with respect, so people respect the world, our peace-loving position,” Krasnoselsky said.
He again clarified what “neutrality” means for the internal situation in the PMR.
“We will firmly suppress any attempts at peace in society. If tomorrow someone says that Ukrainians will come and kill Russians, he will go to prison. Guaranteed. If the day after tomorrow someone says that the Russians will come and kill Ukrainians, he will go to the same cell. This is unacceptable and impossible in Transnistria. They are either idiots or deliberate extremists. Either you need to be treated or deprived of freedom,” said the President of the PMR.
