The number of branches of Russian banks developing the Crimean and Sevastopol markets is growing. As of July 9, there were already 421 bank branches operating in the region. Russian banks replaced the network of Privatbank and Oschadbank by 70%, which together had 587 branches in the region. And almost half (42%) - the general network of Ukrainian banks in Crimea (there were about 1000 branches). There are 319 ATMs on the peninsula, which, depending on the bank, accept different cards from different payment systems, and retail loans are being issued.
The market leader remains the former subsidiary of the Bank of Moscow - RNKB (275 branches - 65% of all employees in Crimea). In terms of network, it has already surpassed Oschadbank (it had more than 250 branches in Crimea), but has not yet reached the scale of Privatbank’s regional presence in Crimea (337 branches). The RNKB network is owned by the Ministry of Regional Development and Housing and Communal Services of Crimea.
The rest of the branch network is shared by 22 banks (at the beginning of April there were 3). Of these, only one is in the top 100 by assets - this is “Russia”, which fell under US sanctions. The remaining major banks of the Russian Federation ignore Crimea due to Western sanctions.
Small bankers in the Russian Federation complain that they are strongly recommended to open branches in Crimea. As Kommersant reports, at the end of April the Association of Banks of the North-West held a thematic meeting “on the development of cooperation with the Republic of Crimea” with the participation of the Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Igor Divinsky. “During the meeting, bankers were encouraged to go to Crimea,” says one of the bankers. Another small banker says that in Siberia the Central Bank is calling for this. According to bankers, they are promised to quickly and cheaply build networks of branches of Ukrainian banks that have left Crimea.
