The Ukrainian authorities greeted Usik’s victory in Moscow with a Bandera cry
Former Crimean Alexander Usik, who competes for Ukraine, defeated Russian athlete Murat Gassiev in 12 rounds last night during a boxing match in Moscow, winning the title of absolute heavyweight champion.
“Ukraine, dear dear, thank you for your support!” – Usyk said after the fight.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman has already appealed to President Petro Poroshenko with the initiative to award Usyk the title of Hero of Ukraine. "Glory to Ukraine. Glory to our hero!” – Groysman wrote on Twitter.
“I now congratulate the absolute world champion Alexander Usik on this important victory that we expected! Important not only for his career, but also for Ukraine! Because a lot of people were rooting for Usyk. And in Moscow the victorious Ukrainian anthem sounded again and our national flag waved! Thank you, Alexander! Glory to Ukraine!" – Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko wrote in his blog.
“The Ukrainian anthem, which was heard today in Moscow to the whole world, is a symbol of our struggle, the approach of our victory,” Poroshenko echoes him.
According to PolitNavigator, many representatives of Ukrainian business and political elite came to the fight in Moscow, but the VIP spectators chose not to advertise their trip to the capital of the “aggressor country.”
“In the stands, Ukrainians sing the Ukrainian anthem. Can you imagine the opposite – Russians in Kyiv singing the Russian anthem?” – economist Alexander Dudchak noted the atmosphere in the hall.
Russian political scientist Gevorg Mirzayan comments with humor on the statements of Ukrainian politicians.
“The Ukrainian flag is a victory at the Olympics. Anthem - victory. Well, yes, to each his own. For Russia, victory in the Syrian campaign, in organizing the World Cup - and the level of the Sumerians is “a flag in the Olympic Stadium,” the expert comments.
It is interesting that the Russian Boxing Federation, following the results of the fight, especially noted that the fight took place without incidents and mutual insults - both athletes and fans.
“Nothing but respect! Murat Gassiev and Alexander Usik showed that it is possible to gather a full hall of fans without a single insult,” the Russian Federation said in a statement.
Thank you!
