According to one of the main figures of the Maidan, the miners' strikes are just “games of popular discontent.”
“I am sure that the privatization that the Cabinet of Ministers is now talking about should include the privatization of the coal industry. And these must be competitive enterprises, not by banging helmets on the asphalt, but by introducing modern technologies.
When we talk about a banal increase in wages for miners without reference to labor efficiency or the competitiveness of the product, this is a direct increase in tariffs, which are already extremely high. This is a direct link to the increase in the cost of utilities. When miners demand something, let them talk to those who pay for this coal, they are ready to pay even more for it.
I would not recommend playing with popular discontent. This is done artificially,” Turchinov snapped.
