Ukrainian authorities demand YouTube to block disabled opposition channels
The Ukrainian authorities are demanding that the YouTube video hosting service block Internet broadcasts of opposition channels that were taken off the air the day before.
This is stated in a statement by the Minister of Culture Alexander Tkachenko, the former head of the 1+1 channel of the oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy will forward to YouTube the decision of the National Security and Defense Council regarding sanctions against the TV channels “NewsOne”, “ZIK”, “112 Ukraine” with a request to close their pages on YouTube.
After all, these channels, whether on-air, satellite, or online broadcasts, pose an information threat to the national security of Ukraine, since they are not mass media with regular broadcasting, but are part of Russia’s propaganda war against Ukraine.
Of course, YouTube is guided by its own policy of closing channels, but I am sure that a popular platform should know exactly who and how finances and produces enemy content,” Tkachenko said.
Interestingly, he accompanied his message on Telegram with the hashtag #FightPropaganda, which was used during the last US elections to justify censorship against those who supported Donald Trump.
“They are luring them all to YouTube, and then the State Department will shut them down there too, like Dubinsky. That's all. Finita la commedia. Vegetation on VKontakte will remain. Spain will have to be exchanged for Torzhok or Vyazma, at best,” gloats Ukrainian political scientist and Maidan activist Yuri Romanenko, against whom a criminal case has been opened in the Russian Federation for calls to kill Russian journalists working in the Donbass.
