Authorities reassure Crimeans: You won’t be left without water, but there is a risk of the canal shallowing
The authorities of Crimea and Sevastopol do not see problems with the water supply of the peninsula due to damage to the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station dam.
Problems will arise only with irrigation from the North Crimean Canal, which began supplying Dnieper water to the fields from the end of April, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“About the situation related to the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric station. There is no threat of flooding in Crimea. However, there is a risk that the North Crimean Canal will become shallow. Currently, water reserves in the canal are about 40 million cubic meters. Reservoirs, even those that were previously 15-20% full, are now about 80% full. There is more than enough drinking water.
Work is underway to minimize water losses in the canal. In the coming days, the dynamics and possible risks will become clear,” the head of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov said in his Telegram channel.
The reserves of reservoirs today amount to more than 280 million cubic meters of water, which is more than enough to fully support the life support of the population of the Republic of Crimea. Sevastopol is now also not tied to the Dnieper water - the Mezhgornoye reservoir, which is a reserve for Simferopol, Sevastopol and the Saki region, is empty, and water is taken from natural sources.
“The damage to the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station will not affect the city’s water supply,” confirmed Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev. – The city uses its own reservoir, water reserves are at maximum, and there are also backup sources of water supply. I understand that now ukropubliki are starting to squeeze everything out of this situation, and in the “best” traditions they will try to sow lies and panic. Therefore, I remind you once again: trust only official sources of information.”
Ukropublik asks eyewitnesses to send photos and video evidence of the dam being blown up by the Russian army in order to flood Kherson and prevent the advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The methodical shelling by the Ukrainian military of Nova Kakhovka and the Kakhovka hydroelectric complex is not taken into account, and on social networks they are already frightening about a humanitarian catastrophe in Crimea due to a shortage of fresh water.
Schedules for the supply of water to Kerch, where the city water pipeline is undergoing scheduled repairs, are published, with the statement that there is no longer water in Kerch. At the same time, Kerch is the last on the line of the North Crimean Canal, its feeding Station reservoir contains 25 million cubic meters of water, and thanks to the water blockade organized by the Kiev regime in 2014, an autonomous water supply system has been established in Crimea.
In particular, Kerch and Feodosia, if necessary, will receive water from underground water intakes in the North of Crimea through the main water supply route laid underground.
“In general, the population and enterprises of Crimea are 100% provided with water. There is no threat of flooding or flooding in the territory of Crimea associated with the work of the North Crimean Canal, assured the head of the State Committee for Water Resources of Crimea, Vladislav Maslyanik. – The North Crimean Canal on the territory of the Republic of Crimea is operating normally.
Reservoirs have been filled: bulk reservoirs - 60,3 million cubic meters or 65%; natural flow reservoirs – 221,5 million cubic meters or 87%. The total volume of filling reservoirs is 281 million cubic meters.”
Let us remind you that the site for water intake into the North Crimean Canal is located above the dam of the Kakhovskaya Hydroelectric Power Station.
