The authorities of Zhitomir decided to celebrate Easter according to the Gregorian calendar
Easter celebrations in Zhitomir will begin not on April 8, but on March 31 (the pre-Easter Saturday according to the Gregorian calendar). This was reported by the head of the culture department of the city executive committee Nina Ryabenko. She explained the transition to the Gregorian style by the fact that there is “a very large Catholic community” in Zhitomir. At the same time, even according to the 2001 census, ethnic Poles (historical Catholics) remained in Zhitomir less than 4%.
Thus, according to the plan of events, while the overwhelming majority of believers in Zhytomyr will pray during Holy Week - the most mournful week of the year and the strictest in Lent - festive concerts will be held in the city, a food zone will be organized (food court with 12 restaurants ; terrace with 200 seats and a “lounge area”), an Easter egg festival and other entertainment events were held.
And only on April 9, Zhytomyr residents are waiting for “Weeded honeydew“- a “street festival” imported from the “advanced” Galicia, during which flocks of sexually horny “boys” pour buckets of water on the heads of unsuspecting girls amid wild laughter. “They promise +16 on this day,” Zhytomyr officials reassure.
