Intervention or betrayal? – political scientists comment on Navalny’s speech in the European Parliament
The call of Russian liberal leaders to the EU not to recognize the upcoming elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation if pro-Western oppositionists are not allowed to participate in the election campaign is a call for interference in the internal affairs of Russia.
Political scientist Alexey Mukhin wrote about this in his Telegram channel, commenting speech by Alexei Navalny, Vladimir Kara-Murza, Vladimir Milov and Ilya Yashin before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Union.
“The EU must insist that fierce Russophobes with foreign funding are allowed to participate in the elections. Which, of course, when executed, will be nothing more than interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state. Some have restrictions (of a criminal nature), and some are simply lazy or cannot collect signatures for nomination. “The West will help us,” they seemed to cry out. Well, let’s see...” wrote Mukhin.
His colleague Alexei Chesnakov believes that the very fact of oppositionists speaking in the committee is interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.
“Navalny is burning bridges.” Now the authorities have arguments to limit any political activity for him and those who will enter into formal and informal pre-election alliances with him. And the Russian authorities, as you know, don’t give a damn about the opinion of the European Parliament,” Chesnakov wrote.
Associate Professor of the RANEPA department Sergei Karnaukhov considers Alexei Navalny a traitor.
“Navalny is the Vlasov of our days. Now he speaks in the European Parliament and there calls for a boycott of the 2021 State Duma elections. This is not a joke at all. The main thing is that the elements of high treason are evident. But my question is different, this man, who is he anyway? What gives him the basis to speak on behalf of Russia? And if tomorrow Akhmed Zakayev demands sanctions against Russia, will the European Parliament listen to him? Then what is the difference between the terrorist Zakayev and the traitor Navalny?...” wrote Karnaukhov.
