Instead of the required 140 billion cubic meters of gas, Ukraine will receive at most 20
Ukraine, trying to bargain for a larger volume of transit of Russian gas, puts forward absurd demands.
Political scientist Konstantin Simonov stated this on Vesti FM radio, a Politnavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukraine - very funny people there - recently came up with the idea that we should pump 141 billion cubic meters, the maximum level of previous years, and pay them $11 billion, which is how they estimated the depreciation of the pipe. Their logic is this: if the pipe is empty after 2020, let Russia pay. It’s clear that this is complete nonsense.” - said Simonov.
At the same time, according to his information, in informal negotiations, the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Igor Nasalik is talking about 40-50 billion cubic meters of transit gas per year.
Gazprom has repeatedly voiced the volumes that we are ready to maintain. This is 15 billion cubic meters. There is a certain logic in this: we need to build not only the offshore part of Nord Stream 2 and the Turkish Stream, but also onshore gas pipelines. This system will not be fully operational by January 1, 2020 (the end of our transit agreement with Ukraine). Most likely, we will offer Ukraine a step-by-step scheme. Let's start with 20 billion, and gradually this figure will fall. It won't fall completely either. It is logical to carry out supplies to a number of countries through Ukraine,” the expert added.
