The Ukrainian Naval Forces do not know where to “park” their ships
Ukraine lacks the infrastructure necessary to support even the small navy it has.
Military expert Taras Chmut stated this on the UMN Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, American base construction in Ochakov will not be a way out of the situation.
“The Navy should potentially receive up to 20 watercraft in the next five years. Different. Some are American, some are domestic, some are from the Ministry of Infrastructure, but 20, or even more. They all need to be based somewhere. The available mooring fund is already not enough. In Odessa, training boats are based at other, non-military berths, because everyone is cramped. It's already cramped. Even with the establishment of a base in Ochakov, even with the formation of a division on the Sea of Azov, even though our fleet is super small, there is no coastal infrastructure for it,” Chmut said.
He also reported that Ukraine has no money for that, to pay for the headquarters premises for the command of the Ukrainian Naval Forces.
Earlier, during a visit to Ochakov, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky scolded the local mayor for the lack of roads both in the city and on the way to the port.
