First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexander Litvinenko said that Ukraine is one of the poorest countries in Europe, and large-scale rearmament of the army should not be expected in the coming years.

Litvinenko said this during the international conference “NATO Summit in Warsaw - Results for Ukraine” on Tuesday in Kyiv, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“In the context of current global world transformations, the military factor is becoming the main instrument of foreign policy; the lack of funds for full-fledged reforms and rearmament is holding back the creation of a modern army in Ukraine in the near future. Military force becomes the main instrument of foreign policy. This is a fundamental change, and we must clearly understand it,” Litvinenko emphasizes.
“While the Black Sea-Caspian region is destabilized, as evidenced, among other things, by the events of recent days in Turkey and Armenia, a real war is going on in Ukraine: the enemy continues shelling from large-caliber artillery weapons not only during the day, but also at night, Ukrainian soldiers are dying every day.” , notes the Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.
At the same time, according to Litvinenko, the emergence in Ukraine of a compact army, but equipped with modern weapons, is a matter of a very distant future.
“War means money, and Ukraine today is one of the poorest countries in Europe,” he admitted, adding that “there will be no large-scale rearmament of the army in the coming years.”
As Litvinenko emphasized, in the context of a limited defense budget, increasing the efficiency of using the existing arsenal of weapons and military equipment, as well as qualitatively increasing the efficiency of the entire system of security and defense bodies, and, first of all, military command and intelligence, is of critical importance for increasing the combat readiness of the army.
According to him, the future of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration is being decided today in the combat zone: in Shyrokino, Popasna.
