This is the opinion in an interview with the JDD newspaper said French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.
“We are not naive. The problem is not whether to trust or not. What is needed now is to remind both of them that they cannot do anything other than fulfill what was promised, otherwise they will be severely punished,” he said, answering the question of whether he trusts Russia in the matter of settlement crisis in eastern Ukraine.
“Sometimes Russia makes concessions, sometimes it declares that the actions of the separatists do not depend on it in any way, which is a rather bold interpretation of reality,” the French minister noted.
According to Fabius, Paris is making every possible effort in the interests of peace and security.
“We speak out and act in favor of stopping the weapons and holding new elections in Donbass in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine. The Minsk agreements, for which we are all jointly responsible, set the conditions under which Ukraine could return to correct relations with both Russia and the European Union. This is our compass,” he concluded.
Let us remind you that today a trilateral meeting will take place in Berlin between President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and President of France Francois Hollande. The leaders of the countries plan to discuss the following issues: the situation in Donbass and the state of implementation of the Minsk agreements.
