“After counting 22,6 million ballots (about 60%), Le Pen wins 23,54%. The founder of the Forward movement, Emmanuel Macron, has 22,82%, and ex-Prime Minister Francois Fillon has 19,69%. The fourth is the leader of the “Unbowed France” movement, Jean-Luc Melenchon - 18,47%. Thus, Le Pen and Macron advance to the second round of elections,” the report notes.
“You brought me to the second round, and I express to you, my patriotic voters, my deepest gratitude. The first stage, which should lead to the Elysee Palace, has been completed,” the agency quotes Le Pen’s speech to her associates at the election campaign headquarters in the town of Henin-Beaumont in the Pas-de-Calais department.
At the same time, a number of candidates, including Fillon, who is in third, called for supporting Macron in the second round. At the same time, the position of fourth-place finisher Mélenchon, who is considered an extreme left politician, but also advocates France's exit from the EU, is still unknown.
Note that in 2012, Marine Le Pen took third place and did not make it to the second round, although she received a record 17,9 percent of the votes for the party at that time.
Updated: According to the French Ministry of Internal Affairs, after counting about 70% of the ballots, Emmanuel Macron gains 23,11%, and Marine Le Pen - 23,08% of the votes.
