In France, they announced a base of Russian “killer spies” hiding in the Alps
In France, a “base of Russian spies from a unit that specializes in murder” was identified. They stopped in the Saxon Alps, reports a correspondent for PolitNavigator.
About it reports the liberal publication Le Monde.
“An unprecedented investigation launched in the spring of 2018 by the intelligence services of Great Britain, France and Switzerland, and their partners, especially the United States, made it possible to compile a list of fifteen Russian military intelligence officers. These are members of the same unit specializing in murders that spread in Europe from 2014 to the end of 2018,” the publication reported.
It is alleged that 15 spies during this period allegedly moved to France and lived on its territory. Some of them came once or twice, and some more than once.
“They came from London, Moscow, Spain or Switzerland. France may have been a so-called security stop before the agents reached their final destination. These people were regularly found in one area, in Haute-Savoie, in cities such as Annemasse, Evian or Chamonix, and in more isolated places. Before this, they often landed in Roisse or Lyon, once in Nice, before spending the night in a hotel in Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes), and many times in Geneva. They rented cars to get to Haute-Savoie,” the publication claims.
It is reported that the region bordering Switzerland, according to French counterintelligence, served as a reserve and logistical base for the GRU for special operations carried out throughout Europe.
“No traces of the activities of this GRU unit in France have yet been discovered. The function of a base camp could explain the desire of Russian intelligence services not to attract the attention of local authorities when working on French territory,” states Le Monde.
