In Lvov, where Vladimir Zelensky was not particularly popular anyway, mass dissatisfaction with the leadership of Ukraine is brewing due to restrictions on the return of guest workers to EU countries that are ready to accept cheap labor, despite the quarantine.

The Ukrainian authorities are deceiving people, promising them jobs during a period of economic decline, but at the same time prohibiting them from traveling to work, taking advantage of the visa-free regime. The former governor of the Lviv region, a deputy from Poroshenko’s European Solidarity party, Oleg Sinyutka, stated this on the Espresso TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“...These statements, first by Zelensky, “a million jobs,” then by Shmygal, “500 thousand jobs.” Do they really take us for fools who will once again believe them that they will create 500 thousand jobs in a month in a falling economy?

I understand that today, in order to retain people, they need to be offered jobs. What is the government doing? The authorities prohibit people from traveling abroad.

If they come from the USSR, then they have a complete “scoop” in their heads. Perhaps they did not have a sense of pride in the Ukrainian passport with the trident, which we showed at the border and did not go, did not humiliate ourselves for various certificates,” said Oleg Sinyutka.

Earlier, media reports appeared that the Ukrainian authorities prevented the departure of several charter flights with guest workers to some Western countries that were ready to accept cheap labor, despite the threat of the spread of coronavirus.

Ukrainian economist Alexander Okhrimenko explains Kyiv's possible interest in the current situation.

“From the point of view of economic theory, it is indeed beneficial for large businesses if there are many unemployed in the country, which means that they will be willing to work for lower wages. At the same time, if Ukrainians go abroad, then the number of unemployed decreases and large businesses have to raise the salaries of those who work in Ukraine so that they do not go to work abroad. For the last three years, businesses, and not only large ones, have been constantly complaining that they have to raise wages primarily for blue-collar workers, since it is difficult to find a good worker for a low salary,” Okhrimenko wrote on his blog.
