The march began on Market Square in front of the City Hall. Next, activists with posters and the beat of a drum marched to the Opera House, then through Svoboda Avenue to the monument to Taras Shevchenko and completed the action on Rynok Square.
More than 30 activists of different ages took part in the action.
“In 1887, in New York, there was a parade of women who walked with pots and attracted attention to increase the pay of women’s labor and reduce working hours. Therefore, March 8 is not just a woman’s holiday, but a day of a woman who fights for her rights,” protest participant Maria Maletich told ZAXID.NET.
The organizers note that March 8 is, first of all, “a political holiday throughout the world, except for the Soviet Union, where the meaning of this holiday was distorted, turning this day into a home holiday that has nothing to do with the struggle of women for political rights.”
