This was announced by the deputy mayor of Lvov, Andrey Moskalenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to the press service of the mayor’s office.
The mayor's office reported that they decided to fence off one of the parts of the Monument of Glory with turnstiles. Officials claim that the monument is “unsafe” and is “crumbling before our eyes.”
“Today a commission visit of the working group took place to consider proposals and resolve the issue of displaying the Monument of Glory. The commission decided to fence off one of the parts of the Monument, since it is in emergency condition; dismantling of the monument will begin in the coming days,” the message says.
The mayor's office has not yet decided how the territory on the site of the Monument of Glory will be developed.
“We understand that the area needs to be improved. A competition has already been announced to see how this area can be changed. There is a park nearby, there is a ground forces academy, our task is to somehow decorate this area. In the next few days, we’ll decide what can be done there,” said Deputy Mayor Andrei Moskalenko.
Earlier, “PolitNavigator” already reported that that the neo-Nazi group C14 announced the demolition of the monument on its own if the authorities do not resolve this issue in a “civilized way.”
